Apple Designer Becomes Royalty Again

by Holly Shoemaker

The British monarch awarded a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) to Jonathan Paul Ive, head of Apple’s design team since the middle 1990s. Actually, this is the second royal honor received by Ive. In 2006, he received a Commander of the British Empire honor for his design and innovation achievements.

Concluding Thoughts

Apple certainly has brand allegiance and many consumers like the design of the iPhone, iPad, iPod and other Apple products. Ive was instrumental in building the design Apple loyalists have come to adore. I just never realized the Queen was such a fan and that she now hails Ive. To be fair, a committee selects the recipients. I guess if musicians and actors may become knights, recognizing someone for technology achievements helps even out the mix.
