What's in a Name? Plenty According to iPad Enthusiasts

by Holly Shoemaker

As expected, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new iPad Wednesday at a show in San Francisco, Calif. While rumors circulated that Apple would call this the iPad3, Apple’s newest iteration goes by “iPad.”

Instead of reiterating the features that everyone has already read about, I have focused on what many tweets have already touched – the naming convention. Apple told the Wall Street Journal the company did not want to come across as predictable. Therefore, the 3 is not added to the tablet’s name.

Concluding Thoughts

I understand the initial confusion from both a consumer and journalism standpoint. However, think about in conversations if you say you own an Android device or an Apple one. At the end of the day, if you purchase this, you still buy an iPad. This also falls in line with other Apple naming conventions like the iPod. For people who are concerned they may purchase the wrong version, ask questions and conduct research to ensure you get the version you want.

As a reminder, the new iPad comes out on March 16. For those looking for a cheaper version, Apple also announced it will sell an entry-level iPad2 for $399.
